Historical background The Broa helmet
was found in Broa, Gotland. It is one of the helmets from the "Pre
- Viking" migration period. It belongs to the same archeological
family as the Vendel and Valsgard helmets (12 examples in total)
. This helmet has a decorated crest ending with a animal head, bronze
gilded eyebrows, a spectacle and two big bronze rivets, one on each
half of the bowl. It also comprises a neck protection composed of
seven narrow plates of steel suspended on hinges.

Reconstruction of a helmet found in Broa, Gotland (Sweden); pre-Viking era. Description Materials used: Hot rolled, constructional steel, 0,4% of carbon. The whole helmet is made of 2mm thick steel apart from the casted crest and eyebrows made of brass. Brass rivets. Includes leather lining. How it is made: This helmet is composed of two hand-forged halves riveted with one rib. No welding has been used in the process. The spectacle is also riveted to the bowl. We offer 2 versions of this helmet: polished and matt. Please mention which version you prefer when ordering.
